* Burrell Yeates "Yates" was born in Appling, Georgia 193 years ago in the year 1828 to his Father, William Melvin Yates and Mother, Mary Ann Polly Cothern. The two had arranged to meet at the Red Barn, a local landmark, before eloping to Ipswich. Marten was never seen alive again and Corder fled the scene. He sent letters to Marten's family claiming that she was in good health but her body was later discovered buried in the barn after her Stepmother spoke of having dreamed about the murder. Corder was tracked down in London where he had married and started a new life. He was brought back to Suffolk and found guilty of murder in a well-publicised trial.

•• This evenings honorees Paternal Grandfather and namesake, Burrell served under Colonel Ezekiel Wimberly during the War of 1812 and later during Second Seminole War when he was in his late sixties from 1837 until 1839, the year in which he died.

•• Burrell's Paternal Great Grandfather, William Yates, a native of the Virginia colony served with the Continental Army for a short time during the American Revolution ( May 9th, 1781 - August 1st, 1781 ). He enlisted with the North Carolina 6th Regiment which was commanded by Colonel Gideon Lamb. Sadly, Lamb was afflicted by a "bilious fever"and died at the age of 40 on Thursday November 8th, 1781.

He was a prominent land surveyor, engaged in battles with native Americans along the Eastern Maryland shore, and ultimately settled in Pennsylvania

Burrell was the eldest of 10 verifiable children born to his Mother and Father.. Chronologically his younger siblings were Elizabeth Ann Betsy, William Melvin, Josiah Silas "Sy", Needham, .Mary Ann Matilda, Martha Jane, Joseph, Amanda, and Ezekiel Jackson, Yeates "Yates".

In 1830 Burrell, just a toddler and his family relocate to the Florida territory which would not officially become a U.S. State for another 15 years on March 3rd, 1845.

Yeates "Yates" Patriarch, William Melvin supports his family in both the Peach State of Georgia and Sunshine State of Florida as a farmer for the entirety of his life.

"Burrell" married 17 year old Elizabeth Dees on May 12th, 1849 in Hamilton County, Florida. The couple would go on to have a pair of children together, a Son, William Cabel and Daughter, Mary "Matilda" Elizabeth. Sorrowfully Mr. Yeates would lose his young Wife of three years in 1852 the same year in which their Daughter was born. Elizabeth Dees Yeates was just 20 years old.

This evenings honoree married for a second when he wed Alabama native Nancy Allen on Sept 18th, 1853 @ Hamilton County, Florida. The newly established couple have five verifiable children during the course of their marriage. Chronologically they welcomed James Cicero, John Wesley, Nancy, Florence, and Lucy Yeates "Yates".

Following in his Fathers footsteps, Burrell supports his family in a lifelong field of farming and agriculture.

☆☆ We discovered a very rare document, an

"Ordinance of Secession" seeking Florida's sovereignty from the United States which was created on January 10th, 1861 and included Mr. "Yates" handwritten signature.

On March 5th, 1863 Burrell enlisted with the Confederate States Armies 9th Regiment, Florida Infantry @ Lake City, Florida. The unit was assigned to General Finegan's Brigade, and served with the Army of Northern Virginia at Cold Harbor, then was placed in the Petersburg trenches South of the James River. It was involved in the Appomattox Campaign before surrendering on April 9th, 1865, with 15 officers and 108 men in total. Upon his return to Florida, Burrell signed an "Oath of Allegiance" to the Union on May 20th, 1865.

At some point after 1870 but before 1880 the Yeates family move from North Central Hamilton County, Florida to Eastern Hillsborough County which is located in the West Central part of the state. Burrell lives here quietly with Nancy for the rest of his life.

•• Burrell's Mother, Mary Ann Polly Yeates passed away on January 15th, 1886 as she neared her 80th birthday. Within two years this evening's honorees Father, William Melvin married for a second time in 1888 when at the age of 82 he wed 27 year old Sarah Jane Douglas !!

☆☆ On November 15th, 1888 Burrell received a Hillsborough County, Florida land grant which was signed by then President Grover Cleveland.

•• Burrell's Father now in his middle eighties would lose his life on Friday April 24th, 1891

For reasons we know not, this evenings honoree took his last breath on Thursday February 22nd, 1894.

•• 104 short days after Burrell's passing, his beloved Wife of forty years, Nancy Allen Yeates loses her life on June 6th, 1894.
