Louis Amiero

Louis Amiero was born in New Orleans, Louisiana more than 120 years ago on January 28th, 1900 to his Father. Laureano "Lawrence" Amiero a native of Spain and Mother, Rosalie "Rosalia" "Lilly" Azcarraga.

** Interesting events that occurred around the World during Mr. Amiero's birth year of 1900 included.

• On January 29th coming 1900 the American League of Professional Baseball Clubs is organized in Philadelphia with eight founding teams.

• On February 3rd, 1900 Governor William Goebel of Kentucky dies of wounds after being shot by several assassins on January 30th. Goebel, who had prevailed in a dispute over the winner of the election in November of 1899 was sworn in on his deathbed. The former Secretary of State of Kentucky, Caleb Powers is later found guilty in the conspiracy to kill Goebel.

• On May 14th, 1900 the second evee Olympic Games open in Paris, France.

• On May 23rd, 1900 Sergeant William Harvey Carney is awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism in 1863, as the first African American to have been awarded this medal and distinction

• On November 3rd, 1900 the first Auto show in the United States opens at New York City's Madison Square Garden.

• On November 6th, 1900 Republican incumbent William McKinley is reelected the 25th President of the United States by defeating Democratic challenger William Jennings Bryan in a rematch

Louis was the youngest of five boys born to his Mother and Father. His elder siblings were Arturo Oscar Albert and Lawrence Amiero.

Amiero Patriarch, Laureano supports his family in a popular Tampa, Florida occupation as that of a cigar maker.

** In February of 1916 Louis participated in a Charlie Chaplin look-alike contest and came in seventh place out of 36 contestants !! ( Article in comments below )

On October 9th, 1917 at the age of 17 this evening's honoree would enlist with the United States Army @ Tampa, Florida as America enters the First World War. Ultimately in the end, he would be assigned to the United States Navy and eventually achieve the rank of Seamen Second Class.

On Wednesday October 16th, 1918 Amiero Patriarch, Laureano would lose his life in a local Tampa hospital. Based on the death certificate which we will share below it appears as though his cause of death was that of cancer Mr. Amiero was sixty four.

** After scanning through Louis's official military documents it appears as though he spent the majority of his time in the military stationed at Key West in Florida after training in the Peach State of Georgia. I mention this because in his Father Laureano's obituary it states that Louis and his Brother Lawrence were overseas in France when their father died but that does not seem accurate according to documentation we will share below.

Louis would be honorably discharged on Friday November 8th, 1918 3 weeks after having had lost his Father and three days prior to the signing of the Armistice ending the First World War.

This evenings honoree would return to Tampa, Florida after the wars end and live with his widowed Mother as would his fellow Veteran Brother Lawrence. Young Mr. Amievo helps to support his family as a Sailor aboard an oil tanker. Like so many unfortunate Americans during this time, he loses his job and employment would be difficult to come by with the encroachment of the crippling Great Depression. Having many responsibilities thrust upon Louis, he never marries nor does he have children while navigating challenging personal and fiscal times.

On Tuesday July 18th, 1933 Louis and his companion, Mitchell Lopez decided to go for a swim in the Hillsborough River on a hot Florida Summer afternoon near the 22nd Street Bridge. Sorrowfully he became exhausted and was swept away by the current before disappearing beneath the murky rivers surface. Louis had drowned... He was thirty three
