Walter Herbert O'Gara

Walter Herbert O'Gara was born more than 127 years ago on September 25th, 1892 in Urbana, Illinois to his Father Patrick O Gara and Mother Susan Bradley.

Walter was the 7th of eight children born to his Mother and Father... His older siblings by chronological birth were Anna, Catherine Elizabeth, George Patrick, Nellie, Gertrude, and Frank O Gara. He had a single younger Brother named Ray.

His Father Patrick immigrated to the United States from Sligo, in Ireland with his family in 1852 when he was just a toddler. By all accounts and Federal census records Patrick supported his family by working with his hands as a laborer and later a railroad switchman.

Walter enlists with the United States Army on June 5th, 1917 as America joins the First World War. He would serve his country until being honorably discharged from service on June 3rd, 1919 after the war's end.

Upon his return to the states Walter would marry Laura Marie Shaw Smith in Ohio on July 9th, 1919. The marriage was short-lived and did not bring with it any children.

Sometime between 1920 and 1925 Walter relocates to Tampa, Florida. March 5th, 1925 Walter marries
Camille Isabell Howard @ his new home City in the Sunshine State... Together they would have a single Son that they named Patrick on November 25th, 1928.
Patrick would later go on to join the United States Navy with whom he served for many years

Patriarch Walter, supports his family in a variety of roles with the Tampa Electric Company during the course of his life. He was also very active in Veterans organizations for those who served bravely during World War I ...

Mr. O'Gara passes away on Saturday September 18th, 1965... 7 days shy of his 73rd birthday
