Bessie was the eighth of nine children born to her Mother and Father. Her elder siblings chronologically were Lillian, James Madison Junior, Emmet, Newnan, Frederick, Henry Watson, and William. Younger brother Thomas Wesley was born on December 4th, 1883.
The Johnson family would relocate from Mississippi to Sunshine State and city of Tampa, Florida when she is just a toddler.

On September 5th, 1899 12 years to the day after having lost her Father, at the age of nineteen, Bessie marries thirty-six-year-old Pennsylvania native William James Linhart. Together the couple would have three children during the course of their marriage. Son's Wilkin's, and William junior as well as Daughter, Nellie. According to Florida Census records from 1910 Johnson Matriarch Henrietta at the age of 66 resides with her Daughter Bessie's family.
