Charles was the third born child of four to his Mother and Father. He had two older siblings. Sister Kathy and Brother William as well as younger Brother Alphonso.

By the turn of the century and in the Federal Census of 1900 Charles is employed as a "Hack Driver" in Key West, Florida.
In the first years of the 20th century Charles would join the Tampa electric company and over time become a line foreman during his 30-plus year career.
In 1914 at the age of 32 Charles Herman marries his Wife Minnie a native of Ohio who is 5 years his Junior... Together they welcome a Son in 1918 whom is named after his Father... ( Charles Herman Jr would go on to enjoy a long career in the United States Army and was a Veteran of the Second World War )
During his lifetime Charles wouldd achieve the
32nd degree of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

In 1939 after more than three decades with the Tampa electric company, Charles is seriously injured in an accident and forced to retire.
