Monterey's Father, Henry William Hancock supported his family throughout the entirety of his life in the field of farming. He received a deed for his homestead along Hancock Lake on April 1st, 1854, as compensation for his service with the Florida Volunteers. Mr. Hancock served in the Confederate Army as a private in Capt. John Parson’s Florida Guards.
