Joseph Raymond was the eldest of six children born to his Mother and Father. He had three Brothers, Ralph, Tony, and Charlie as well as Sisters, Mary and Rosa Cabrera.
This evenings honoree was a local Tampa legend along with two of his Brothers Tony and Ralph as amateur baseball barnstorming stalwarts. Joseph Raymond who was nicknamed "Doc Carrivaelio" was a star centerfielder for the Tampa Eagles !!
Young Mr. Cabrera would initially enlist with the United States Armies Co H 2nd Florida Infantry in 1916 and served along the Texas / Mexico border where they clashed with Mexican rebels led by Pancho Villa .. When he returned to Tampa in March of 1917 Joseph Raymond did not come back empty-handed as he brought with him his new bride, Emma Northrum !! After formal introductions, he informed his family that the newlyweds would be heading to Jacksonville where this evenings honoree had secured a very good job with the Seaboard Air Line Railroad which styled itself "The Route of Courteous Service,"
Mr. Cabrera would reenlist with the United States Army March 29th, 1918 and along with his Brothers Ralph and Tony is sent overseas where he would serve predominantly in France. At the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, 102 years ago today the Great War ends when Germany and Allied Forces sign in Armistice agreement in a railroad car outside Compiégne, France
In the month of December the Cabrera family received word that both Joseph Raymond and Tony would be coming home soon. Sadly this evening's honoree would fall victim to the historic pandemic of 1918. where he dies in the town of Aix-les-Bains
which is situated along the shore of the largest natural lake of glacial origin in France, the Lac du Bourget.
Newspaper recollections state that complications from appendicitis and lobar pneumonia were the cause of his demise.
