The Son of a farmer, Joseph Johnson would follow in his hard-working Father's footsteps both in the states of Alabama and Florida.
In 1893 Joseph, 23 marries his Wife, Minnie (16) a native of the Sunshine State as they begin to grow their family @ New Providence, in Crenshaw County Alabama.
** Together Joseph and Minnie have at minimum 6 verifiable children including five Daughters and a single Son. Chronologically their Daughters were Amie, Thurston ( Yes that was their second eldest daughter's name ), Josie, Beatrice, and Sallie. The McDougall's only Son, Alexander was born in 1908.
( Mr. McDougall's obituary states that he had SIX Daughters and a Son but I cannot confirm Daughter number six )
After the turn of the 20th century the McDougall's relocate from Alabama to Palmetto, Florida along the Gulf coast where Joseph with his younger Brothers Millard and Jessie tend to a large farm. According to the Federal census from 1910 Joseph at the age of 40 would likely have been a father figure to Millard who is 21 and Jesse just 16. As the calendar transitions through the 1910's, the McDougall's move a tick Northward to the city of Tampa most likely to seek better medical care as Joseph is stricken with tuberculosis.
The disease would eventually take the McDougall Patriarch's life more than a century ago on January 16th, 1919.
